Yoplait & Children
For infants below the age of one, the main food should be breast milk or infant formula. For advice on the introduction of foods to your child please speak to a health professional, such as your local Maternal & Child Health Nurse.
Is
Yoplait suitable for babies? At what age can I give yogurt to my baby?
Baby Yoplait yogurt is designed for babies from
6 months of age, provided there is no family history of dairy intolerance.
Yogurt can be offered after your baby is already eating cereal and several types of
fruits and vegetables - usually around 6-8 months of age.
If there is
a family history of dairy intolerance or allergy, seek advice from your health
professional about introducing your baby to dairy foods.
Can my
child eat adult yogurts?
Adult yogurts are suitable for children, but please note:
- Children under the age of 2
years require full fat varieties of yogurt, such as Yoplait Original yogurt, for healthy growth and development.
- ‘Lite' and ‘No Fat' or ‘Diet'
yogurt varieties are not nutritionally suitable for young children.
- Adult yogurts contain larger
fruit pieces that may be of a firm texture and unsuitable for young
children
- Adult yogurts may contain sugar
and can have a stronger flavour.
My baby
refuses to eat yogurt when I offer it. What should I do?
Don't give
up! It can be frustrating, but any new taste or textured food may need to be
offered to a child at least 10 times before they are familiar enough to
spontaneously request or consume the food.
If your
child refuses a food don't worry, just try this food again another day.
Follow the
advice of your mother care nurse or other health professional when beginning to
introduce solid foods to your baby. The Royal Children's Hospital website has a
variety of fact sheets that may be helpful (www.rch.org.au/nutrtion).

My child
won't eat yogurt by itself. How can I encourage her to eat it?
Ways of incorporating yogurt into your child's diet:
- Add to cereal or fresh or
softly cooked fruit to boost flavour and nutrition.
- Petit Miam vanilla tastes
delicious in mashed vegetables like pumpkin, sweet potato, mixed
vegetables or lentils.
- Semi-freeze a tub and see how
wonderfully it soothes and cools irritable gums during teething (always
use by the best before date).
- Petit Miam vanilla is perfect
to use as an appetising dip.
- Try combining Petit Miam fruit
varieties with different types of fresh fruit. E.g. Petit Miam strawberry
with fresh banana; raspberry with fresh pear.
- You can use Petit Miam as an
ingredient in sauces or as a marinade for adding moisture to meat. Try
combining our apricot variety with softly cooked, diced chicken.
- Mix Petit Miam with stewed
fruit in layers to make a mini parfait.
- Add Petit Miam vanilla yogurt
varieties to mashed potatoes, soup and quiches.
- Add Petit Miam to milk with
your own seasonal fruits in a blender and make a delicious thick yogurt
smoothie.
Why is
the ratio of casein to whey proteins important in milk and dairy foods?
Casein and
whey proteins are the two main types of protein in milk. The ratio of milk
casein to milk whey proteins in cow's milk is different to that in breast milk
and infant formula.
Baby
Yoplait yogurt has been specially formulated to modify the casein to whey ratio
so it is more like breast milk. This unique balance of milk proteins should
help the yogurt empty from your baby's stomach more easily and helps ensure it
is more easily digested than a casein rich yogurt.
