What is low GI?
Glycemic Index (GI) is the ranking of foods based on their overall effect on blood sugar levels.
Carbohydrate, in the form of starch and sugars found in the foods we eat, is digested and converted to glucose for energy.
Carbohydrate foods that break down quickly during digestion have a high GI, meaning they can cause a rapid and high blood sugar response in the body.
Carbohydrate foods that break down slowly, releasing glucose gradually into the blood, have a low GI. These foods raise blood glucose levels more slowly providing you with a sustained energy release that lasts longer and can also help you to feel fuller for longer.
